After majoring in music at St. Olaf College, mezzo soprano Dinah Barthelmess moved to Chicago, where she continued her theatre training with classes at Second City, Center Theater, Victory Gardens, and Act One. Professionally, Dinah has performed with a number of Chicago-area theatres, including Light Opera Works, Theater at the Center, Alphabet Soup Productions, and the Irish Repertory Theatre. Favorite productions include Into the Woods , The Irish and How They Got That Way , Miracle on 34th Street , City of Angels , and One Touch of Venus . In addition to her theatrical career, Dinah performed at numerous promotional and professional events with the women's a capella group, Route 66. She also studied vocal jazz with Janice Borla and Jackie Allen and spent several years as the vocalist for the local jazz band, Loose Standards. Eventually part time work as a camp counselor and child-care provider led Dinah to her passion as a teacher. After completing her Master's in Elementary Education at Roosevelt University in 2004, she now is thrilled to be the drama teacher at Wilmette Junior High School where she teaches 7th and 8th grade drama, stage acting and technical theater. Dinah directs the students' spring musical, and runs a drama club that uses theater to increase awareness about environmental issues. She now proudly serves as a Creative Drama representative on the Executive Committee for the Illinois Theater Association. Dinah is thrilled to be a part of Acts of Kindness Cabaret and the gifts it shares and is grateful to and proud of her longtime friend Hilary for her passion, vision and ambition. Enjoy the show!
